Are Dental Visits Important?

Posted .

No matter how well you brush and floss, you still need to see your dentist for your routine cleanings and exams. Many dental problems, like oral cancer and gum disease are painless in their early stages, and your dentist may be the first one to spot a problem, In fact in many cases, regular dental visits will give the dentist to spot small problems before they become big problems, and a healthy mouth can prevent other illnesses as a well,

In most cases, your dentist will want to see you every six months, however, if you are at a high risk of dental problems, your dentist may want to see you more often. Some people are just more prone to cavities, but if you use tobacco, are pregnant, have immune system issues, or have diabetes, especially if you do not control it, you may need more frequent dental appointments. If you have been diagnosed with gum disease, your dentist may set up a treatment schedule for you. If you have recently had dental implants, your dentist will want to see you for follow-up visits to make sure that they are functioning properly and that your surgery is healing. As you grow older, you should continue to see your dentist at least twice a year, since issues such as root caries, receding gums, and dentures can affect an older person’s oral health.
